La La Land
Damien Chazelle writes and directs this romantic musical starring Emma Stone
and Ryan Gosling. Aspiring actress Mia (Stone) and jazz musician Sebastian
(Gosling) are both down on their luck in Los Angeles, a city of broken dreams.
Tired of being rejected in auditions and reduced to serving stars their coffees,
Mia stumbles into a jazz club to the entrancing melody of a piano being played
within; there she finds Sebastian, who is being discarded by his boss.
The two soon fall in love as they strive to truly make something of
themselves. But the rocky road of pursuing their dreams may prove too much
strain for their budding romance to bear. The film was nominated for eleven

5,000 people volunteer to help set up a new colony on a faraway planet known as
Homestead II, they board the Starship Avalon spaceship and embark on their
120-year journey, throughout which they will settle into a cryogenic sleep. When
two of the sleep chambers malfunction and awaken passengers Jim (Pratt) and
Aurora (Lawrence) just 30 years into their voyage, they are faced with the
prospect of dying alone before reaching the planet, with just each other and
robot bartender Arthur (Michael Sheen) for company.
When they realise that there is something wrong with the ship, they must work
together if they are to have any chance of saving the thousands of people on
Will Smith, Kate Winslet and Keira Knightley lead an all-star cast in this
American drama. The film follows successful New York advertising executive
Howard Inlet (Smith) as he struggles to come to terms with the sudden death of
his six-year-old daughter. Unable to deal with his grief, Howard abandons his
company and becomes a depressed recluse, living the same monotonous routine and
riding his bike around the city every day.
In a bid to deal with his pain and fragile mind, Howard goes in search of
answers and decides to write letters to Love (Knightley), Time (Jacob Latimore)
and Death (Helen Mirren) to question the way his life has turned out. When they
each appear to give him the answers he's been looking for, Howard, with a little
help from his friends and colleagues, engages with them in the hope of once
again finding peace. The cast also includes Edward Norton, Michael Peña and
Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard star in this romantic thriller directed by
Robert Zemeckis. Set during World War Two, the film follows Max Vatan (Pitt), a
French-Canadian spy who meets fellow agent Marianne Beausejour (Cotillard) while
on a dangerous mission behind enemy lines in Casablanca. Tasked with killing a
Nazi official, the pair pose as lovers in order to gain access to their target.
After developing genuine feelings for each other while working together, Max
and Marianne reunite in London where they decide to get married and start a
family of their own. However, not long after settling into their new life, a
shocking development reveals one of them to be a double agent and leaves the
other facing some very difficult decisions.
A Monster Calls
Based on the bestselling novel, this fantasy drama adaptation is directed by
J.A. Bayona and written by Patrick Ness. Young Conor (Lewis MacDougall)
struggles to deal with his mother (Felicity Jones)'s terminal illness, the
heartless grandmother (Sigourney Weaver) he must stay with, and the bullying he
receives at school from Harry (James Melville).
Gripped by guilt, anger and fear, Conor is given support from a quite
unlikely source: a drawing of a great, ancient tree monster (voice of Liam
Neeson) that comes to life. The monster visits Conor at night to tell him
stories and help him come to terms with his difficult situation. With the
monster at his back, Conor faces his problems directly with courage and
Children's animation that follows an aspiring ballet dancer in France and
features the voice talents of Elle Fanning, Dane DeHaan and Carly Rae Jepsen. In
1879, poor orphan Félicie Milliner (Fanning) leaves her orphanage in Brittany
with her best friend Victor (DeHaan) and moves to Paris where she dreams of
becoming a professional ballerina. She enrols as a ballet pupil at the Paris
Opera and is taken in by its kind caretaker Odette (Jepsen) but despite trying
to achieve her dreams Félicie finds life tough at her prestigious and
competitive dance school.
With the help and support of Victor and Odette, will Félicie be able to
realise her dreams in the big city?
Clint Eastwood directs this drama based on the autobiography of Chelsey
Sullenberger. Tom Hanks stars as pilot Chelsey 'Sully' Sullenberger and Aaron
Eckhart as his co-pilot Jeff Skiles, who were at the helm of Flight 1549 in 2009
when, shortly after take-off, the plane hit a large flock of birds which
disabled both engines. In the face of immediate danger, Sully took the decision
to make an emergency landing on the Hudson River and successfully managed to
save the lives of everyone on board.
Laura Linney also stars as Sully's wife Lorraine.
Star Wars Rogue One
Gareth Edwards directs this sci-fi adventure set in the 'Star Wars' universe,
featuring a stand-alone story written by Chris Weitz and Tony Gilroy. After
being recruited by Rebel Alliance leader Mon Mothma (Genevieve O'Reilly), former
criminal Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) is tasked with stealing the plans for the
Death Star so that the weapon can be destroyed before it causes damage to the
galaxy. Teaming up with Rebel Captain Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), master
swordsman Chirrut Imwe (Donnie Yen) and a band of hardy freedom fighters, Jyn
takes on the might of the Empire in a challenge tougher than anything she could

Angelina Jolie writes, directs and stars in this romantic drama alongside her
husband Brad Pitt. The film follows wealthy couple Vanessa (Jolie), a former

a break. Although the couple are going through a rough patch in their
relationship, the people they meet while on their break help them work through
their issues and bring them back together.
Disney animated adventure set in ancient Oceania. When a fiery ocean demon
threatens her peaceful island home, teenage Princess Moana (voice of Auli'i
Cravalho) vows to fulfil her heroic destiny and save her people. Putting her
navigation skills to the test, Moana sets out on a daring sea voyage to find the
once-mighty demi-God Maui (Dwayne Johnson), the legendary creator of the Pacific
Islands and the only one who can help her with her quest.
Together, they traverse the treacherous open waters, encountering difficult
conditions and dangerous creatures along the way, as Moana searches for the
mythical island which holds the key to completing her mission. The film also
features the voice talents of Jemaine Clement, Alan Tudyk and Nicole Scherzinger.
The film was nominated for the BAFTA for Best Animated Film, two Golden Globe
Awards for Best Animated Feature Film and Best Original Song - Motion Picture
(How Far I'll Go), and two Academy Awards for Best Animated Feature and Best

Fantastic Beasts & Where To Find Them
David Yates directs this fantasy adventure adapted by J.K. Rowling from her
own novel. Set in New York in 1926, the film stars Eddie Redmayne as eccentric
wizard Newt Scamander, author and Ministry of Magic employee, who is headed to
the Magical Congress of the United States of America with a special briefcase
that is home to a variety of dangerous beasts.
After the creatures escape Newt finds himself wanted by the US authorities.
Meanwhile, the incident has a negative impact on relations between magical and
non-magical people in New York. Is there any way to repair the damage caused?

A United Kingdom
David Oyelowo and Rosamund Pike star in this romantic drama based on the true
story of an African prince who fell in love with a white British woman in the
1940s. While studying in England, Prince Seretse Khama (Oyelowo) meets Ruth
Williams (Pike), a beautiful young woman who immediately steals his heart. As
the two begin a highly controversial love affair, they battle every day against
prejudice and hate, hoping that their love will keep them together.
When the time comes for Seretse to go home to take his place on the throne of
Bechuanaland, he refuses to leave without Ruth and so the two marry and return
as husband and wife. With British government official Alistair Canning (Jack
Davenport) threatening Ruth with the knowledge that her marriage could cause the
downfall of the British Empire in Africa, the couple do everything they can to
convince the world that they can be an interracial couple and still successfully
lead a country.
Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner and Forest Whitaker star in this sci-fi drama
directed by Denis Villeneuve. After mysterious alien spacecraft land on Earth,
American linguistics professor Dr Louise Banks (Adams) finds herself working
with the army to decode the aliens' communications. Under the command of Colonel
Weber (Whitaker), Louise and military scientist Ian Donnelly (Renner) try to
learn more about the aliens' language so they can communicate with them and
discover why they have come to Earth, before someone else across the globe
decides to attack first.
But with the CIA and global leaders monitoring their interactions, will they
be able to make their breakthrough without any unwanted interference? The film

Scott Derrickson co-writes and directs this mystical adventure based on the
Marvel Comics character. Benedict Cumberbatch stars as Doctor Stephen Strange,
an ill-tempered and self-centred neurosurgeon whose professional life is ruined
when his hands are severely damaged in a car crash and he is left unable to
operate. Undefeated, Doctor Strange sets out to find a cure and encounters the
Ancient One (Tilda Swinton), who has the power to restore his hands and tutor
him and others in the magic arts, in the hope of producing the next Sorcerer
With the help of fellow student Karl Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor), Doctor Strange
must put his new-found powers to good use as the sudden arrival from an
alternate dimension of corrupted sorcerer Kaecilius (Mads Mikkelsen) spreads
terror throughout the city of New York. The cast also includes Rachel McAdams,
Michael Stuhlbarg and Benedict Wong.
Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal star in this thriller adapted from Austin
Wright's novel. Years after leaving her first husband, Susan Morrow (Adams)
receives a letter asking her to read the manuscript of his first novel. Although
worried that reading the book may unearth unpleasant memories long forgotten,
Susan reluctantly begins to read.
His story revolves around Tony Hastings (Gyllenhaal) and his family as their
summer holiday to a cottage retreat turns violent following a confrontation with
a mysterious man. As Susan reads on, she becomes convinced that the book is a
veiled threat from her ex-husband and is forced to confront some dark truths
about her past. The cast also includes Isla Fisher, Michael Shannon, Aaron
Taylor-Johnson and Armie Hammer.
The film was nominated for two Golden Globe Awards, winning for Best
Performance By an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture
(Taylor-Johnson), nine BAFTAs, including Best Director (Ford), Best Adapted
Screenplay, Best Leading Actor (Gyllenhaal) and Best Supporting Actor
(Taylor-Johnson), and an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor (Shannon).
A Street Cat Named Bob
Roger Spottiswoode directs this feature film based on the true story that was
adapted into the international bestselling autobiographical novel by James
Bowen. Luke Treadaway stars as James, a homeless man struggling with drug
addiction and busking to get by on the streets of London. When James comes
across an injured stray cat he nurses him back to health and names him Bob.
They become inseparable and make for an unusual street music act. Bob's
companionship inspires James to overcome his drug addiction and share his story.
The cast also includes Joanne Froggatt, Anthony Head and Ruta Gedmintas.
Jack Reacher: Never Go Back
Tom Cruise returns to star as the eponymous ex-military police officer in
this action sequel, based on Lee Child's novel. Upon returning to the Virginia
headquarters of his old military unit, Reacher discovers commanding officer and
trusted contact Susan Turner (Cobie Smulders) has been arrested and that he is
now the prime suspect in a 16-year-old murder case. After learning that Turner
is being made a scapegoat for a government conspiracy involving a rogue American
soldier, Reacher breaks her out of prison, resolving to clear her name and
expose the truth.
With time running out and government operatives in hot pursuit, the pair find
themselves on the run across the country, facing a desperate battle to remain
one step ahead.
I, Daniel Blake
Ken Loach directs this drama that follows a 59-year-old joiner as he tries to
navigate the British benefits system. In the North-East of England, widower
Daniel Blake (Dave Johns) is forced to stop working when he is taken ill with
heart disease and so applies for Employment and Support Allowance from the
Government. But his life is further thrown into disarray when his benefits are
suddenly taken away from him and he is forced to jump through the many hoops of
the bureaucratic system to get them back.
During this time, he meets the similarly-troubled single mother Katie (Hayley
Squires) whose financial problems mean she is being forced out of her home in
London along with her two kids Dylan and Daisy (Dylan McKiernan and Briana Shann).
The film was nominated for five BAFTAs including Best Film, Best Director
(Loach), Best Original Screenplay and Best Supporting Actress (Squires) and won
the award for Outstanding British Film of the Year.
Mystery thriller directed by Ron Howard and based on the novel by Dan Brown.
Tom Hanks reprises his role as professor of religious iconography Robert
Langdon. After waking up in a hospital bed in Florence, with no memory of the
events that brought him there, Langdon suddenly finds he is being pursued and
his life is in danger.
He must use his knowledge and skills to solve the mystery of a criminal plot
connected to Dante's 'Inferno' with the help of Dr. Sienna Brooks (Felicity
Keeping Up With The Joneses
Zach Galifianakis and Isla Fisher star in this comedy directed by Greg
Mottola. Jeff and Karen Gaffney (Galifianakis and Fisher) are a normal suburban
couple living with their children in a normal suburban house. When new owners
move in to the house opposite them, Karen becomes obsessed with finding out more
about their new neighbours, Tim and Natalie Jones (Joh Hamm and Gal Gadot).
When they discover that the Joneses are actually government spies, the
Gaffneys find themselves caught up in an international espionage plot that sees
them on an adventure they will never forget. The cast also includes Maribeth
Monroe, Matt Walsh and Patton Oswalt.
